Green Bullet™ (11-14 % AA) A dual purpose / bittering hop with a spicy dried fruit character and solid finish Breeding: Released from the New Zealand DSIR (now New Zealand's Plant & Food Research) in 1972. Green Bullet is a triploid alpha variety that was bred by open cross pollination of the New Zealand "Smoothcone" variety. Hallertau (NZ) New Zealand Hallertau is a triploid hop bred from Hallertau Mittelfrüher and a New Zealand male cultivar. First introduced in 1988 by HortResearch (now the New Zealand Institute for Plant and Food Research), it is purported to impart a distinct lime ‘zing’ beneath a delicately floral top. Despite being bred from Hallertau Mittelfrüher, its New Zealand parent has modified the aroma and flavor profile enough that it isn’t considered a “true” Hallertau. Despite this, Hallertau (NZ) has been popular among brewers and boasts good vigor, yield and storage stability and has no known susceptibility to viruses. It is characterized as clean tasting with staying power.

Kohatu® (5-7.5%AA) A dual purpose hop with fresh tropical fruit characters and excellent finish and bitterness Breeding: Kohatu® Brand HORT3829 is a triploid aroma type produced through the crossing of a Hallertau Mittlefruh and a New Zealand Male with North American and European parentage. Kohatu® was released from the New Zealand Plant and Food Research hop breeding programme in 2011. Selection: Kohatu® has been described as having an intense fresh tropical fruit character during selections and these early sensory evaluations brought this hop to the attention of researchers. Brewing: Initial brewing trials displayed a hop of great versatility with excellent stable flavour and aroma impacts. Fruity characters seen in sensory selections had carried through into the finished product, which was very satisfying. Breeding: A triploid aroma type developed by New Zealand’s HortResearch. This hop was bred by crossing a New Zealand breeding selection (2/3) with Saazer parentage (1/3). First selected by a notable Belgian brewery lead to this variety being called Belgian Saaz and later shortened to “B” Saaz so as not confuse country of origin. Selection: First imPressions re a very lively and lifted lemon and lime followed by a background of tropical fruit. This variety displays similarities to its Saazer parent through its levels of Farnesene typically around the 12 % mark however the higher alpha also makes this hop more desirable in dual purpose applications.
