Chinook a high alpha acid hop with a wonderful herbal almost smoky character when used as an aromatic during the last few minutes of the boil when dry hopping. Excellent for American-style pale ales especially those brewed to higher gravities. Alpha acid: 12.0-14.0% beta acid: 3.0-4.0%. Alpha acid: 12.8-13.6% Bittering hop with a spicy, piney, distinctive grapefruit aroma of medium intensity. Typical brewing style: us pale ale, ipa, stout, barley wine, and lager.

Developed by the USDA breeding program in Washington State and released in 1985 as a high alpha bittering variety, Chinook is a cross between Petham Golding and a USDA male. In recent years, it has found favor as a dual purpose hop in the craft brewing community as a result of its spice and pine aroma characteristics.

Aroma: Specific aroma descriptors include grapefruit, spice, and pine.
